An interesting collection of cycling memorabilia relating to Joseph Louis Maurice Menzies, older brother of celebrated distance cyclist Rene Gabriel Maurice Menzies, including Legion d'Honneur Chevalier enamel medal with ribbon, in original case, an album of thirty-four postcards of prominent cyclists from 1930s including some who took part in the 1936 Olympics, eighteen either autographed or autographed and dedicated to Maurice, some private family photographs, sepia photo of young Maurice with a bike, framed photograph of Maurice in military uniform with medal group including Military Cross, image with cycling medal display and The Red and White book of the Menzies, 2nd edition, privately printed. They were collected by the cyclist Joseph Louis Maurice Menzies, the older brother of the more celebrated distance cyclist. French born JLM Menzies was known as Maurice whilst his brother remained as Rene and both became resident, Maurice finally became 'English' in 1937, when this album was probably assembled and less than two years before his death. The majority are signed, with personal messages to Maurice and also his younger daughter Andree. Maurice was well known in France at the beginning of the 20th Century and on settling in England with his wife Dorothy Kellaway worked as a travelling salesman for the perfumery business of Pinaud. He had been a hero of WWI, winning the Legion d'honneur, the Military Medal and the Croix de Guerre and maintained a keen interest in cycling and boxing reporting on events for the French papers, Echo de Sports and L'Auto.

On receipt of cleared funds, lots can be collected from our Wellingborough Auction Room.
Please contact the auctioneer for the full details and to make a timed appointment.
Alternatively, we can organise packing for postage and shipment on a worldwide basis. Please contact us for a quote. On occasions due to high value, complicated customs arrangements or for the need of highly specialised packing, we will recommend a third-party professional packer and shipper.
All glass will be removed from framed and glazed items prior to posting and may result in delays to shipping your items. (This service is included in the cost of postage and packing). We can also totally remove all framing and mounts upon request to reduce shipping costs.
Overseas Bidders are responsible for all import duties, customs charges, and VAT payable in the destination country.
Customs declarations will be based on the final hammer price of winning bids without exception.
We are currently seeing unprecedented delays in customs clearance times around the world, it is not uncommon for this to take several weeks and unfortunately, we cannot do anything to expedite the process or be held responsible for any delays.
