Victorian gentleman's malacca walking cane with an ivory handle carved as the famous jockey Fred Archer circa 1886,brass ferrule between the stick and handled, drilled for leather wrist strap, ivory tip, length 92cm.This came was sold at a Sotheby's auction in 1985 and was catalogued as ‘purported to have been owned by Fred Archer.’ In November 1986, marking the centenary of the jockey's death, the cane was loaned to the Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum as part of the exhibition ‘Fred Archer, A Sporting Hero.’ - exhibit No.36.IMPORTANT NOTE:This item has been registered as exempt from the UK Ivory Act 2018. Ivory declaration submission number reference: A9YHJB4U.

A superb Victorian album containing 24 cabinet card portraits of jockeys,approx. 14 by 10cm., not identified so worth of future research, but famous subjects including four cards of Fred Archer, Tom Cannon and Charles Maidment, one card depicting Jockey Club members on 1878, occasionally the cards are colour toned, some bearing publisher's stamps for Sherborn of Newmarket.

Vic Smyth memorabilia, comprising a pair of his jockey breeches circa 1920s, by Bedford Riding Breeches Co., Marble Arch, London, with name tag inside for V. Smyth, reasonably good condition, some marks; sold together with blue and white jockey silks believed to have been from one of his owners when he took up training, the white with blue diagonal stripes to the body appear to be the colours registered to Mrs G Buchanan, circa 1950s-60s, complete with a blue and a white cap, (4 items).The Smyth family is one of the most famous names associated with Epsom as a training centre. Vic Smyth was a fine jockey in the 1920s, before becoming a trainer and most famously winning four Champion Hurdles.

Geere (British, 1931-1991),signed, oil on canvas, 45 by 35cm., gilt frame, overall 64 by 53cm., good condition.The colours in this portrait are those of Eric Moller, albeit lacking the jacket braiding.
